A1: We're on the calendar...

Posted by Matt

We're most of the way to the end of the beginning.
Our adoption application process is nearly complete! Our individual interviews, joint interview and home study are all on the books. Mark, our Bethany case worker, called while we were in Atlanta last weekend. We'll be done by the end of next week!

I have so much to do before the home study. I've got to paint and hang the hand rails in the stairway, finish the landscape project in the back yard, check all our smoke detectors and get a fire extinguisher for upstairs.

I also have to complete our profile book that will be used to introduce Teri and I to birth mothers making an adoption plan. I am really looking forward to creating a our profile. I've got a lot of ideas. Maybe too many ideas. Just ask Teri - I think she wants me to just pick a concept and do it already.

Here's the rub with being an officially approved adoptive family: As soon as we're approved, we loose all control of the process. We just pray & wait for the phone call. I thought I was good with that, but I'm not so sure now that waiting time is almost here.

We met a couple at church who just moved here from CA and just finalized the adoption of their first daughter. We only spoke for a few moments, but they were a real encouragement. They talked about looking back on the waiting as a blip in the rear view mirror. It's amazing that the mountain of anxiety before us will soon be a hindsight blip.

Well, I planned to post about Boomsday '06 and our long weekend in Atlanta. That will have to be another day. More later...

Matt
